Wahlberg’s Eagle - a new bird for the Western Palaearctic list

I have just (22nd Apr 9 am. local time) received an email from Ahmed Waheed in Egypt, who sent me some eagle images for identification. The pictures are very good and leave no doubt as to the id. of the bird -it is a juvenile pale morph Wahlberg’s Eagle, the forst for the WP subregion!
The Wahlberg’s Eagle Aquila wahlbergi (Wally) has a wide distribution in Sub-Saharan Africa. Some populations are thought to be resident, but at least South African birds migrate north for the austral winter, almost reaching the Sahel.
Ahmed’s original mail did not give site or date, but I have asked him for more information on this sensational record.
I hope more will follow, perhaps even with the images.

Some hours later I have now received a reply from Ahmed. The bird was photographed on the west coast of Gulf of Suez, Red Sea, near Ras Shuqeir, some 120 kms north of Hurghada on May 3rd, 2013. He also kindly gave me permission to post his images here. Thanks!

The same bird in flight. Note the very uniform appearance of this species with poorly defined barring of flight-feathers, with the diffuse lighter crescents at the base of the outer primaries being the only notable fieldmark.
